Electro-diagnosis is a field of science that studies the human neurology with the help of electrophysiology. An electrical signal is applied to a nerve and the resultant evoked electrical signals are measured electro-diagnostic devices. Electromyography (EMG), Neurodiagnostics (NDS), and Evoked Potentials (EPs) are some of the major aspects of electro-diagnosis. These devices assist the healthcare practitioners or physicians in evaluating several conditions such as myopathy, neuropathy, neuromuscular junction disorder, and plexopathy.

Market Dynamics

Demand for electro-diagnostic devices is high, owing to rising burden of neurodegenerative disorder among aging population such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, in 2017, around 700,000 Americans under age group ≥65 years died with Alzheimer's disease (AD), and many of them died because of the complications caused by AD.

Moreover, introduction of technologically advanced EEG equipment’s with innovative features such as precision monitoring abilities and ease of handling enhances the market growth. For instance, in May 2018, Zeto, Inc., a medical technology company received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its EEG headset named zEEG. The zEEG is the first FDA approved dry electrode EEG headset that offers instant upload, tools for analysis, and remote interpretation by neurologists.

However, cost containment, lack of skilled labours, and inadequate reimbursement policies hampers the growth of global electro-diagnostic devices market. Furthermore, stringent regulatory guidelines and framework associated with medical electrodes or guidelines to appropriate usage are restraining growth of electro-diagnostic devices market.
