Smokeless products consist of tobacco or tobacco blend which can be chewed, sniffed or sucked on. The different types of smokeless products available in the market are chewing tobacco, snuff, snus, and dissolvable tobacco. Some of the ingredients used in smokeless products include additives such as flavoring agents, sweeteners, fruit juices, salt, alkaline agents, and humectants. The products also contain non-tobacco plant material such as spices, areca nut, betel leaf, catechu and non-tobacco condiments. Owing to rising awareness regarding life threatening effects of tobacco such as cancer, consumers are preferring to use tobacco-free smokeless products such as tobacco-free nicotine pouches and tobacco-free and nicotine-free pouches.

Smokeless tobacco products such as chewing tobacco and snuff contain nicotine and various cancer causing substances. More than 30 carcinogens have been identified in smokeless tobacco products that can cause tumors, affect the lungs, nasal cavity, pancreas, trachea, liver, and esophagus in humans. Other health risks of smokeless tobacco include tooth decay, gum disease, cancers, and cardiovascular diseases.
