Kraft paper, also known as paperboard or cardboard, is an everyday product used in an extensive range of applications, from point of purchase packaging at deli counters, bakeries and supermarkets – to heavy-duty industrial packaging. There are so many kraft paper uses. The versatility is possible as a result of its availability in a comprehensive range of grades, finishes, weight and colours. Machine Glazed kraft Paper is widely used in the manufacture of protective products, carrier bags, corrugated boxes & containers. It is also suitable for aluminium foil lamination and other industrial applications.
Governments are moving on the sustainability issue, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms and retailers are actively making bold commitments to step up sustainability of their packaging as well as fundamentally rethink their packaging systems. Market players are turning to kraft pulp derived from industrial wood wastes to develop machine glazed papers. FMI estimates that the US alone generates around 20-30 million tons of industrial wood waste every year. eutilization of industrial wood wastes to develop kraft pulp requires less preparing duration to attain Kappa number almost identical to that of virgin pulp. Further, pulp derived from industrial wood wastes is bleached more efficiently versus loblolly pine pulp and requires lesser chlorine dioxide under similar bleaching requirements. Mechanical aspects of industrial wood waste pulp-produced papers are akin to those of virgin pulp. As such, reusing industrial wood wastes to manufacture machine glazed papers will gain huge traction, globally, in near future.
Kraft paper packaging has the advantages of easy processing, low cost, suitable for printing, light weight, foldable, non-toxic, tasteless, and non-polluting. However, whether it is white kraft paper or yellow kraft paper packaging, it also has poor water resistance and poor strength when wet. For instance, A leading producer of flexible packaging and label and converting papers, Verso Corporation has introduced two new series of light-weight machine glazed kraft papers, GlazeWrap NK and GlazeBag NK. These papers are manufactured using unbleached virgin fiber. Verso Corporation also planned to cater to the increasing demand for unbleached fiber papers from consumer brands.
Charta Global strategically partnered with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas, and introduced latest machine glazed kraft paper under the product line ‘Enza Kraft Paper’, which is certified and is made up of bleached virgin pulp. Also, to amplify flexible food packaging portfolio, Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas introduced ‘New Enza HS Flexpack Unbleached Kraft Paper’ across Latin America and North America in July 2020.
