Serological pipettes are used in laboratories to mix or transfer liquids into different containers. These pipettes come with graduations on the side that help to measure the liquid (in milliliters or ml) to be dispensed or aspirated. Due to their precision in measuring the lowest increment levels, serological pipettes are the most recommended for use. Graduation marks on the pipette are closer to the tips of these pipettes. Using air or gravity pressure, rubber bulbs attached to the tip are used to blow out excess solution. Blow-out pipettes are usually labelled with two rings. The person handling it will need to blast out and collect every last drop of liquid using the attached bulb that provides air pressure. Single-ringed pipettes, on the other hand, are ‘non-blow out’ varieties that allow the entire tip to be drained.
