Mr. Mohit Shrivastava, CMI’s AVP – Research & Consulting, put forth a carefully selected multi-layered research approach as a part of the initiative, which finds the most promising business leaders under 40 in the region. In the selection process, the candidates were evaluated using different parameters such as the eligibility framework, validation process, weighted scoring model, and jury evaluation system. Moreover, these parameters were used to guarantee transparency, neutrality, and sectoral diversity in the final decision.
Advancing Young Leadership Recognition in Western India
ET Edge 40 Under 40 – West Edition 2025 recognizes budding business leaders who have left their impact in their respective fields through measurable growth, innovation, and dynamism. The platform brings together entrepreneurs, corporate executives, investors, and policymakers to highlight leadership excellence across Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu.
The initiatives strives to recognize talent in both established industries as well as emerging sectors in Western India as this region is serving as one of the country’s fastest growing economic corridors.
CMI’s Role: Designing a Rigorous and Balanced Evaluation Framework
Coherent Market Insights designed and executed a structured, evidence-led evaluation framework as a research partner for the ET Edge 40 Under 40 – West Edition 2025. CMI’s framework places an emphasis on objectivity in its methodology, creates measurable performance indicators, and gives a balanced sectoral representation.
The process began with strict eligibility screening wherein candidates were required to be under 40 years of age as of May 31, 2025. Furthermore, they were required to have substantial business operations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu with a minimum of three years in a strategic leadership role. CMI considered professional depth, measurable growth, innovation, and recent achievements as key factors to evaluate the profiles.
Profiles of candidates with experience in industries, including technology, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, education, retail, agriculture, energy, logistics, and consumer goods, were taken into consideration to ensure comprehensive market representation. Three enterprise categories: Emerging Businesses (revenue below ₹50 Cr), Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (₹50–₹100 Cr), and Large Enterprises (above ₹100 Cr) were taken into account to further map the leaders. These allowed proportional representation across business scales. Although there was strong participation from women leaders, CMI made deliberate efforts to include leaders from Tier 1 and Tier 2/3 cities.
CMI used statutory filings, business intelligence databases, and credible public disclosures to develop a systematic validation process for the selected profiles. This process was intended to confirm leadership tenure, revenue classification, and growth trend. A weighted scoring model encompassing 55% leader-specific parameters and 45% organization-specific metrics was used to determine the final candidates. Senior editorial members from The Economic Times along with industry specialists then independently evaluated the results. This process helped recognize Western India’s talent pool in a transparent, reliable, and merit-based manner.
A Multi-Stage, Credible Selection Process
Mr. Mohit Shrivastava, in his speech, described the selection process used in the ET Edge 40 Under 40 – West Edition 2025. He emphasized that the process was rigorous and featured a multi-step approach. The initial phase was marked by sourcing candidates through primary and secondary research, industry associations, and structured nominations. Profiles were screened in order to determine eligibility and evaluated across leadership performance, innovation, and financial growth metrics. This ensured a balanced representation across various sectors and enterprise sizes.
The jury panel scored the shortlisted leaders after they had undergone structured validation. As a result, a credible and diverse list of high-impact business leaders under the age of 40 from Western India was identified.
