Prevalence of diabetes is increasing day by day. Diabetes can be either type 1 or type 2. Type 2 is most common and seen in elderly patients. While type 1 is an autoimmune disorder affecting people of all ages. To manage diabetes glucose tracking is necessary. Tracking blood glucose levels can help to understand when and how much insulin the body needs. The commonly used methods to check blood glucose levels are finger stick blood check and blood glucose monitor. Finger stick checks the glucose level in blood at that point of time. Hence multiple tests are necessary to track the glucose level. This can make diabetes management difficult for patients having sudden rise or lowering of sugar. Hence, continuous glucose monitoring is required. Different continuous glucose monitoring devices (CGM) are available to monitor glucose levels. CGM consists of a small sensor that is placed under the skin usually on the belly or arm. An adhesive tape is used to hold the sensor in place. This sensor measures glucose levels in the fluid under the skin. It takes readings every five minutes throughout the day and night. These sensors are required to change every 7 to 14 days. These CGM systems transmit glucose data from sensors to devices where this data can be viewed. The data is sent to either a handheld device or the application available on the smartphone.

Market Dynamics

Increasing numbers of geriatric patients, increasing prevalence of diabetes, and increasing newer product approvals are expected to propel the growth of China continuous glucose monitoring devices market.  For instance, on April 11, 2021, MicroTech Medical Co. Ltd., a China-based medical equipment manufacturer announced the National Medical Products Administration of China approval of its new product AiDEX G7, the continuous glucose monitoring system. It comprises a single-use glucose sensor, a glucose signal transmitter, a glucose signal receiver, glucose management software, and accessories. It could be used by diabetes patients aged 18 or above to monitor the glucose level of subcutaneous interstitial fluid continuously. The product adopts core technologies like the current/impedance dual-mode monitoring technology with interference-rejecting electrode design and impedance-based auto-correction algorithms, high molecular-weight glucose permeable membrane polymer material synthesis technology, and high-throughput sensor fabrication process and glucose oxidase curing process.
