Fluorine is a silicate and fluorite mixture that reacts to either chlorine or fluorine. The reactions that lead to Fluorine occur when the two chemicals meet at a point called a quaternary interface, where a known amount of Fluorine ions have an available pathway to react with an equal but dissimilar amount of the other chemical present. Fluoride has been shown to reduce the incidence of cavities in adults and prevent tooth decay in children.
