Merck, a leading science and technology company, has introduced a new app called ChemiSphere®. This app helps scientists quickly access important product information and quality data by scanning 2D barcodes on Merck’s Life Science products. The app uses Merck's secure digital traceability platform, M-Trust™, making it easier and faster for labs to retrieve data, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy.
The app was first used in partnership with Metrohm AG from Switzerland, where they developed a solution to transfer data directly from chemical bottles to Metrohm’s titrator machine. This process helps improve the efficiency of lab workflows, reducing errors when transferring data.
Other features of the ChemiSphere® app include:
- Instant access to certificates of analysis and safety data sheets.
- Secure product authentication by scanning the barcode, linking the physical item to its quality data.
- Integration with Merck's M-Trust™ platform, which supports digital product passports and helps prevent counterfeiting.
The app is part of Merck’s effort to create smarter, more efficient tools that make lab work easier and accelerate scientific research.
According to Coherent Market Insights, Life Science Products Market is estimated to be valued at USD 3,887.5 Mn in 2025 and is expected to reach USD 7,869.7 Mn in 2032, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.6% from 2025 to 2032.
“The ChemiSphere® app exemplifies how M-Trust™ technology transforms workflows into seamless digital experiences,” said Thomas Endress, Head of M-Trust at Merck. “This application example represents the future of scientific work, where physical products and digital data converge to make customers’ lives easier by instantly connecting them to the information they need while ensuring trust in their products.”
“Chemists gain significant efficiency from even minor workflow enhancements and minimizing data transfer errors”, said Rajeev Nair, Head of Chemistry for the Life Science business sector of Merck. “By linking reagent data directly to instrument software and eliminating manual entry, the Chemisphere® app greatly reduces error risks and streamlines analytical workflows in the laboratory”.
