Nissan Introduced U.S. Industry-First Personalized Sound Feature for a Custom Listening Experience

Nissan and INFINITI have introduced a new feature known as Personalized Sound, making them the first automakers in the U.S. to bring audio customization based on each driver's unique hearing.

The Personalized Sound app, available for download starting on the Google Play Store, is now accessible for all Nissan and INFINITI vehicles equipped with Google built-in. The best part? It’s completely free, including for cars already on the road.

Setting up the feature is simple and quick. After downloading the app, the driver takes a brief hearing test, which has listening to tones of different loudness and pitch. The driver then taps on the infotainment screen to indicate how well they can hear each sound. Based on the test results, the system curates a personalized audio profile that perfectly vibes with the hearing of an individual.

Unlike conventional sound settings, which include bass and treble, Personalized Sound fine-tunes the audio setup of the car utilizing a 10-band equalizer, adjusting frequencies from 50 hertz to 1,200 hertz for a genuinely customized sound.

For vehicles with more than one driver, Personalized Sound brings the ability to make multiple profiles. Driver can download the app as well as select their profile when they start the car, ensuring that their chosen sound experience is instantly installed. Additionally, profiles can be linked to specific key fobs for even more convenience.

With this feature, Nissan and INFINITI bring high-end audio technology typically found in premium headphones into the car, providing a new level of comfort and automotive premium audio system customization for drivers.

Executive Statement

According to Mitchell Pope, a senior product planner at Nissan who helped lead the development of Personalized Sound, they want to elevate every driver's experience, whether they have a hearing impairment, are audiophiles, or simply want to get the most out of their sound system. Offering an individually tailored audio experience like this is a big first in the U.S. auto industry.
