Volkswagen Reveals Production-spec Electric SUV, ID. 4

The ID. 4 is the second model built on Volkswagen’s MEB electric platform, following the ID. 3 hatchback.

In February 2020, VW showcased the near-production version of the electric SUV, ID. 4 at the 2020 Auto Expo in India. Now, the company has revealed the production-spec version of the ID. 4. With the all-new electric SUV, VW expands the company's all-electric family, following the electric hatchback, ID.3 that debuted in 2019.  In August 2020, VW confirmed that the production of the ID. 4 has begun at the company’s Zwickau facility in Germany. It will also be built at VW’s manufacturing facilities in the United States and China.

The all-electric ID. 4 is the production version of the ID Crozz concept and is expected to be launched in India around 2022. The I.D. 4 is the second model built on the company’s MEB electric platform, following the ID. 3 hatchback. The electric SUV measures 1,629 mm in height, 1,852 mm in width, 4,592 mm in length, and has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. It will be a significant part of the company’s electric lineup. The expected price of the ID. 4 is Rs 43.10 lakh (US$ 58478.34) for the 1st Edition version and Rs 51.72 lakh (US$ 70174.01) for the 1st Edition Max version in Germany.

The company is also expected to introduce more trims in the future. The ID.4 that was showcased at February’s Auto Expo was equipped with an 83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors, one on the front and the second on the rear. The front motor delivers 102 hp of power and 140 Nm of torque whereas the rear motor delivers 204 hp of power and 310 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined output of 306 hp and 450 Nm. According to VW, the company aims to commence deliveries of the SUV in early 2021 in its core markets of the United States, Europe, and China.
