Lab automation utilizes high-end automated equipment such as automated liquid handling system, micro-plate reader, and automated storage and retrieval system. The final steps of the experimental process include sample management, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting. After testing, tested samples are archived using automated technology, minimising mistakes from erroneous labelling or storage. Total lab automation occurs when all three steps—pre-analysis, analysis, and post-analysis—are automated; subtotal automation occurs when only two of the three phases are automated.
