Broadcom has announced the first-ever Wi-Fi 8 access point and switch solution for businesses, designed to support the needs of the AI era

Broadcom has announced the first-ever Wi-Fi 8 access point (AP) and switch solution designed for businesses, built with a special system that’s ready for AI-powered networks.

This new Wi-Fi 8 platform operates on Broadcom’s Wi-Fi 8 radios launched in October 2025. It’s powered by a new chip called the BCM49438, which aids in improving wireless industrial networking and speeding up AI tasks. Broadcom also introduced a new Ethernet switch, the Trident X3+ BCM56390, to work with the Wi-Fi 8 system. Together, these systems operate in harmony to boost performance, efficiency, as well as security for Wi-Fi 8 networks in businesses.

Wi-Fi 8 will bring major changes to internet connections, requiring stronger network systems to handle the growing need for faster speeds, lower delays for real-time AI use, and the large amount of data from many connected devices. To keep up, networks need to upgrade not just access points but also switches that can handle super-fast speeds and manage data efficiently.

The move to Wi-Fi 8 comes with new business needs, like

  • More network bandwidth for hybrid work.
  • Protection against AI-driven cyberattacks.
  • Reliable, low-latency connections for AI factories.
  • Considerations for reducing network upgrade costs.

Broadcom is leading the way with three key features in its network solutions

  • Full Security: They are the first to include MACsec security on all switches and access points, ensuring complete protection.
  • Advanced Analytics: The Wi-Fi 8 system includes advanced tools to analyze network data across the whole system.
  • AI at the Edge: The Wi-Fi 8 AP has built-in AI support, removing the need for extra processors or chips.

Executive Statement

According to Mark Gonikberg, senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s Wireless and Broadband Communications Division, as enterprises increasingly rely on AI for critical operations and security, the demand for a robust, intelligent, and secure network infrastructure has never been greater. Their new end-to-end solution for enterprise Wi-Fi and switching, incorporating Wi-Fi 8, multi-gigabit Ethernet, and edge AI capabilities, provides the essential foundation for organizations to navigate risk and thrive in the AI era.
