Çimsa has begun operations at its new grey cement grinding facility in Houston via its subsidiary Cimsa Americas Cement Manufacturing and Sales Corporation. The plant has an annual capacity of 600,000 tons and represents an investment of USD 82 million. This expansion makes Çimsa the first and only Turkish cement producer with grey cement production capability in the U.S.
The company, which already operates a 300,000 t/yr white cement grinding plant in the country, cited that the new facility strengthens its position in the US market by adding grey cement production capacity.
With its prior white cement operations in the U.S., Çimsa is well versed in the domestic landscape of building materials, and the grey cement plant further broadens its product portfolio. Beyond logistical benefits, local production enables faster response times to regional demand fluctuations and decreases reliance on imports.
In these years, Çimsa expects synergy effects all over its U.S. operations—leveraging shared supply chains, distribution, and customer relationships—to drive cost efficiencies and strengthen its competitive position in North America.
Executive Statement
According to Çimsa CEO Umut Zena, today, we are proud to launch production at their new facility in the U.S. They have long maintained a presence in the American market through exports, but this new investment—realized through our established U.S. subsidiary—marks a true turning point for them. They are no longer just an exporter to the United States; they are now a local producer. This gives them logistical advantages and enables them to serve their customers much faster and more efficiently. At the same time, with their local production capacity in the United States, they aim to increase our sales volumes and further strengthen their market position.
