DLF, a global leader in forage seed, is working to ensure that North American farmers continue to have access to high-quality alfalfa seeds and solutions, especially as the industry consolidates.
On September 1, 2023, DLF bought the conventional alfalfa breeding program from Corteva Agriscience, which is a big step for the industry. Now, alfalfa varieties that were once sold under the Pioneer®, Dairyland Seed®, and Alforex Seeds® brands are available only through DLF. The Alforex and Dairyland Seed alfalfa varieties are now under the DLF Alforex Seeds® brand, while Pioneer alfalfa varieties are available under DLF's Forage First® 5 Series™ brand. In the U.S., these products are sold by La Crosse Seed, DLF’s U.S. division, and in Canada, they’re distributed by DLF Canada’s teams and retail network.
DLF's alfalfa breeders have access to the largest and most diverse collection of alfalfa genetics in the world, which helps them create customized products for different farming needs and regions. The company uses both traditional and advanced breeding methods to improve its alfalfa offerings.
DLF is also dedicated to alfalfa research, with a significant portion of its workforce focusing on development. The company has a long history of innovation in forage products, with more than 10% of its employees worldwide working in R&D to meet the evolving needs of hay and livestock farmers.
