Hyundai launches its IONIQ electric car brand in China with two new concept cars

Hyundai Motor Company has started its all-electric IONIQ brand in China. At the launch event in Beijing before the Auto China 2026 show on April 24, the company showed two new concept cars.

Hyundai also shared a plan to grow in China, making the IONIQ brand not just about cars, but a full mobility experience.

The two new electric concept cars for China are the VENUS Concept, a stylish sedan, and the EARTH Concept, a reliable family SUV. These cars show that Hyundai is ready for China’s new energy vehicle market.

IONIQ is Hyundai’s all-electric car brand and is known globally for its design, quality, as well as innovation. Popular models like IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and IONIQ 9 show Hyundai’s strong electric car technology as well as focus on people.

IONIQ has won many awards, including World Car Awards for the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. High-performance versions, like IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N, show the brand’s leadership in electric car performance. The IONIQ 6 N was named 2026 World Performance Car.

In China, IONIQ will not just sell cars but offer a full mobility experience for local customers. It will keep Hyundai’s safety and quality standards while adding local technologies and services for China’s fast-growing new energy vehicle market.

Hyundai will also use a new naming system in China, naming future IONIQ cars after planets, showing that each car is centered around the customer.

According to coherent market insights, the Electric Vehicle Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.8% during 2025 to 2032. Currently, the market is at USD 495.30 Bn in 2026 and is expected to be around USD 837.93 Bn by 2033. The market trend for electric vehicles is characterized by significant technological advancements, declining battery costs, government incentives, and increasing environmental awareness.

“Starting with the two concept cars unveiled today, we will continue to present products that reflect deep insight into Chinese customers and our genuine commitment to this market. Built on IONIQ’s uncompromising principles of world-class safety and quality, we will soon introduce production models that seamlessly combine the smart driving and smart cabin experiences that Chinese consumers demand.” – Li Fenggang, President at Beijing Hyundai Motor Company
