JBT Marel, a technology solutions provider to the food & beverage industry, has launched its new Efficient Agitation (EA) Retort featuring patented technology that enhances packaging flexibility and sustainability for ready-to-eat and ready-to-drink products. The product launch will meet the evolving demands of food packagers and make operations more efficient.
Only for packagers that have fragile or non-standard containers such as pouches, tubs, cups, and glass, the EA retort is based on a next-generation system that has a new trapezoidal agitation motion that is capable of delivering shorter cook times, higher energy effectiveness, and consistent heat penetration. The EA Retort optimizes the sterilization process with maximum efficiency in brine usage, whilst reducing cycle times and therefore producing fresher and better-quality products.
The key benefits of the EA Retort are:
Linear product agitation: Ensuring an even and uniform agitation exists to all products therefore providing equal quality and processing of the complete batch.
Bespoke agitation profiles: Allowing for the adjustment of agitation levels according to product needs and also for sensitive items and multiple stages of processing.
Reduced cycle time: This can offer a significant reduction in cycle times compared with static heating and possibly reduce the need for static heating machines used within the production line.
SuperStatic capability: Increases efficiency with up to 30% and 34% reductions in come-up and cooling times, respectively, while achieving effective thermal processing.
Vertical door design: This design reduces the machine's overall footprint, enabling more flexible facility arrangements and substantial space savings.
Breno Dos Santos, product line manager of JBT Marel, pointed to the firm's dedication to developing food packaging technologies in response to marketplace needs and concern for the environment. "The EA Retort provides an unmatched set of advantages that reduce manufacturing time and shipping expense while improving sustainability," he stated.
According to coherent market insights, the sustainable packaging industry will grow at a 7.4% CAGR during 2025-2032. The market size is USD 430.01 Bn in 2025 and is projected to grow by about USD 709.23 Bn during 2032. Market size is driven by growing environmental awareness among consumers along with regulatory pressure for eco-friendly solutions.
The launch of the EA Retort coincides with the increasing industry trend towards clean labels and sustainable foods, as manufacturers look ever more for solutions that save product integrity and optimize operations. The new technology by JBT Marel will help producers deliver innovative, premium-quality foods to consumers, meeting the demand for healthy foods.
