Layton, Utah — Potbelly Sandwich Shop announced to open a new location in Layton on September 16, joining existing stores in Ogden and Sandy as the chain accelerates expansion in the state.
The Ogden shop opened June 17 and the first Utah location launched in Sandy back in 2016.
Potbelly is also exploring additional sites in Taylorsville and the greater Salt Lake City area, in line with its broader U.S. growth strategy.
In March 2025, Potbelly Corporation introduced the "Potbelly 50/50 Large Area Developer Incentive Program." This initiative aims to encourage multi-unit fast food franchisees to open multiple locations within a specified timeframe. Under this program, franchisees who commit to opening at least 15 shops within eight years can benefit from reduced initial franchise fees, lower deposit fees, and a 50% discount on royalty fees for shops opened ahead of schedule.
This move aligns with Potbelly's strategy to expand cafe brand across the U.S. and attract experienced franchisees.
The Ogden Potbelly is located at 1321 Wall Avenue, on the southwest corner of Wall Avenue & 12th Street. It sits in a busy retail area that includes WinCo Foods, PetSmart, and Marshalls nearby. In the same building where Potbelly is, other tenants are Einstein Bros. Bagels and Swig, among others.
Executive Statement
According to Camden Wisor, district manager in Utah for Sound Sandwich, the franchise group operating the outlets in the state, with Ogden opening earlier this year and Layton opening Sept. 16, growth is ongoing. They are also exploring a location in Taylorsville along with additional sites in the Salt Lake City area. Potbelly is executing a broader strategic push to expand nationally, through both corporate development and franchise partnerships. Utah is one of the newer growth markets.
