Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. Is partnering with Nvidia Corp. to build an “AI Megafactory” that will fuel its semiconductor manufacturing operations. For this project the company will deploy more than 50,000 of Nvidia’s most advanced graphics processing units in the new facility to embed artificial intelligence throughout its entire chip manufacturing flow. It’s also planning to leverage AI to help with chip development and design to facilitate a new generation of semiconductors, mobile devices and robotics with enhanced AI capabilities of their own.
Samsung isn’t focused on the 'traditional' AI factories like the ones Nvidia is building with the U.S. Department of Energy and Oracle Corp.
These earlier existing facilities are data centers, designed particularly for AI production by providing the powerful computing infrastructure to train as well as run AI models.
Rather, Samsung is constructing an AI-enabled semiconductor plant that integrates automation into nearly every stage of chip manufacturing, from design and equipment to operations and quality control.
twik this "The company likens the planned factory to a “single intelligent network”, where AI will continuously monitor and analyze its production environments, make predictions, inform maintenance and optimize everything to try and boost its chipmaking yields."
The company stated that this technology will enable it to simulate its chip manufacturing operations in a virtual environment, allowing it to assess performance before launching physical production lines. It will be able to identify potential issues, determine where preventative maintenance is necessary, optimize production processes, and apply these insights to its real-world factory operations.
