Toyota to Launch BEVs and FCEVs Globally, Unveils New Hilux BEV Model

Toyota Motor Corporation has planned to introduce a range of powertrains, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), as part of its strategy to achieve a carbon-neutral future.

On November 10, Toyota unveiled the new Hilux, which includes a BEV version, at a special event in Bangkok, Thailand. In Asia, Toyota plans to start launching these vehicles from 2026. For models going to Japan, the diesel version is expected to be released around mid-2026.

Toyota is focused on creating better cars by managing products and regions effectively. As part of its efforts toward carbon neutrality, Toyota is introducing a range of mobility solutions through its multi-pathway approach. This approach provides different electrified vehicle options designed to suit the energy needs and customer preferences in various countries and regions.

With the new Hilux, Toyota will expand this approach by adding a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) model, alongside the diesel and BEV models announced today. The FCEV version is expected to launch in Europe and Oceania starting in 2028.

According to coherent market insights, the Electric Vehicle Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.6% during 2025 to 2032. Currently, the market is at USD 427.02 Bn in 2025 and is expected to be around USD 713.07 Bn by 2032. The market trend for electric vehicles is characterized by significant technological advancements, declining battery costs, government incentives, and increasing environmental awareness. Key trends include expanding charging infrastructure, growing investments from automotive manufacturers, and consumer inclining for eco-friendly vehicles, as well as continuous improvements in battery technology and vehicle range.

During the premiere event, Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries initiated his speech by greeting the audience, both in Thailand and those tuning in globally, with a warm "Sawadee Krap." Simon showed Toyota’s longstanding relationship with Thailand, which has spanned over 60 years. He added that Toyota’s presence in Thailand was never just an investment but a true partnership that has flourished into a strong friendship.

He pointed out that Thailand exemplifies Toyota’s “Best in Town” philosophy, being the first country in Asia, outside of Japan, where Toyota began producing cars. The partnership, which started more than six decades ago, has flourished with the support of the Thai government and partners, as well as customers, transforming Thailand into a hub for production, innovation, and collaboration. Simon concluded by highlighting that Toyota’s success in Thailand is a testament to the reinforcement of local collaboration, noting that over 13 million vehicles have been produced in the country, benefiting people in 133 countries worldwide.
