Babybel and GoGo Squeez owner, Bel Group, is working with food tech company Foodberry to create healthier snacks made with real fruit. Bel’s U.S. division will use Foodberry’s plant-based coatings, which are made from real fruit, to develop new snack products that are nutritious, easy to eat, and taste great.
The first product from this partnership is expected to launch in select U.S. markets later this year. This new snack will combine real fruit and protein in individual portions.
Even though more people are focusing on health, many Americans still don’t eat enough fruit. Foodberry’s fruit-based coatings aim to resolve this problem by making snacks that are both nutritious and convenient.
Foodberry’s coatings, developed in labs at Harvard and MIT, are designed to protect and enhance the fruit with fibers, nutrients, and minerals. These coatings can be used for snacks like fruit-coated ice cream bites, and Foodberry is also working on new ideas like savory snacks with vegetable wraps for cheese or hummus.
