Chemiluminescence is the process of converting chemical energy into visible light that is emitted as the result of chemical (oxidation or hydrolysis) reaction. This process offers sensitive and cost-effective detection methods to several radio-isotopic and fluorescence techniques and most chromogenic detection processes. Chemiluminescence imaging is the process of capturing the series of images during identification of low abundance proteins. Chemiluminescent imaging enables accurate quantification of Western blots with a real-time display.

Global Chemiluminescence Imaging Market: Drivers

Increasing use of chemiluminescence imaging in various sectors such as medical and forensic sciences and in DNA and protein detection is expected to boost the chemiluminescence imaging market growth. Moreover, new product launch is also expected to boost the chemiluminescence imaging market growth. For instance, in 2017, Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. launched ChemiDoc MP Imaging System. It offers high-resolution DNA and protein gel documentation features and its chemiluminescence detection sensitivity matches that of conventional X-ray film. It can be used for both fluorescent and chemiluminescent detection.

Moreover, in June 2019, Thermo Fisher Scientific Launched Powerful Invitrogen iBright 1500 Imaging System Series for Western Blot and Gel Imaging. This iBright 1500 series can be utilized to image fluorescent western blots, chemiluminescent western blots, nucleic acid gels and more.

Similarly, in February 2018, Pop-Bio Ltd. introduced its novel Pop-Bio Imaging system (Vü) that utilizes Advanced Progressive Imaging technology to accurately capture images at ultra-high sensitivity and resolution. This can be used in wide range of applications including UV, blue light, blue-green, visible light, and chemiluminescence.

Global Chemiluminescence Imaging Market: Regional Analysis

On the basis of region, the global chemiluminescence imaging market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa.

North America is expected to hold dominant position in the global chemiluminescence imaging market. This is owing to increasing research studies for forensic human identification by using methods such as DNA profiling, forensic anthropology, forensic radiography, and forensic odontology in which chemiluminescence imaging plays crucial role for identification and detection of proteomics and genomics.

Furthermore, Europe is expected to witness significant growth in the global chemiluminescence imaging market, owing to launch of new products in the region. For Instance, in 2017, Syngene, a manufacturer of image analysis solutions, launched its new GeneGnome XRQ — a dedicated chemiluminescence imaging system. The new GeneGnome XRQ is designed to rapidly and accurately image chemiluminescent Western blots. It consists of high-quality F/0.95 fixed focus, cooled camera with on chip integration and GeneSys software.

Key players operating in the global chemiluminescence imaging market include, LI-COR Biosciences, Analytik Jena US, Azure Biosystems, Berthold Technologies GmbH & Co. KG, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., Cleaver Scientific Ltd, Next Advance, Inc., Syngene, GE Healthcare, Vilber Smart Imaging, Inc., Thermo Fisher Scientific, Analytik Jena Life Science, PerkinElmer, Inc., and ANALIS sa/nv.

Key Development

In August 2017, Azure Biosystems Inc., launched Sapphire Biomolecular Imager, a next generation laser scanner system that offers fluorescent imaging in the Near IR (NIR) and Visible Wavelengths (RGB), true chemiluminescent imaging.

In September 2017, DiaSorin S.p.A., acquired ELISA technology business from Siemens. The objective of acquisition was to convert the current client base that uses ELISA tests towards CLIA technology solutions.
