Nitrous oxide (also called laughing gas) is a colourless gas or a liquefied compressed gas. Taking nitrous oxide delivery systems can cause feelings of euphoria, relaxation and calmness, fits of giggles and laughter – hence the nickname 'laughing gas'.  It has a slightly sweetish taste and a pleasant odour. It is slightly soluble in water and found naturally in the air as part of the earth's normal nitrogen cycle. Nitrous oxide is widely used in medical and non-medical applications. In the medical industry, it is widely used in surgery and dentistry procedures as an analgesic and anesthetic. According to the American Dental Association, nitrous oxide delivery systems is a safe and effective sedative agent when used with oxygen in dentistry procedures. It does not intend to make induce sleep, therefore patients can hear and see during the dentistry procedures. In the non-medical industry, nitrous oxide delivery systems is used as a propellant to make whipped cream sold at supermarket at around US$ 10 for a box of ten canisters, and is used as an engine lubricant in the automotive industry.

Global Medical Nitrous Oxide Delivery Systems Market – Drivers

Wide application of nitrous oxide delivery systems in medical and non-medical industry is expected to drive growth of the global medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market. Nitrous oxide is a prominent gas in medicinal industry due to its use in surgery and dentistry procedures as anaesthesia and analgesic agent.  Nitrous oxide with its prominent applications in medical field has increased investment by various companies dealing with medicinal gases, which is boosting the growth of the global medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market. For instance, according to Gas World, in 2013 the new SEDARA gas mixer system from Linde Therapeutic Solutions is a fixed-concentration of nitrous oxide delivery systems/oxygen (N2O/O2) therapy innovation in over 20 years. Use of nitrous oxide delivery systems gases in non-medical industries has also been facilitating growth of the medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market.

Global Medical Nitrous Oxide Delivery Systems Market– Impact of COVID–19 Analysis

Governments and healthcare experts across the globe are focused on developing a durable vaccine against COVID–19. The clinical outcome of inhaled nitric oxide gas and BCG immunotherapy has proved effective and may be a potential treatment against coronavirus. Several device companies have recently received the FDA’s permission to use nitric oxide in emergency situations for treating COVID–19. During the SARS outbreak in 2003, inhalation of nitric oxide improved lung oxygenation. In addition to improving lung function, nitric oxide also showed anti-viral activity. Thus pulmonary vasodilator effect and a direct antiviral effect of nitrous oxide delivery systems towards COVID–19 infected patients may prove effective.

Global Medical Nitrous Oxide Delivery Systems Market – Restraints

The major factor restraining the growth of the medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market is stringent rules and regulation over the possession, transport and use of nitrous oxide delivery systems. Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulate the use of medical gases and their associated equipment and the guidelines regulated by them specify the use and administration of nitrous oxide delivery systems.

Health workers who are exposed to nitrous oxide delivery systems for a long period of time can suffer from skin allergy. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, in 2018, nitrous oxide delivery systems (N2O) accounted for about 6.5% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities such as agriculture, fuel combustion, wastewater management, and industrial processes (medical and non-medical) which increasing the amount of N2O in the atmosphere. These factors are expected to restrain the global medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market growth during the forecast period.

Global Medical Nitrous Oxide Delivery Systems Market – Regional Analysis

On the basis of region, the global medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. North America is projected to dominate global medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market during forecast period owing to investments in research and development. For instance, the U.S. National Library of Medicine in 2016 stated that the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation completed clinical trial on high-concentration continuous flow nitrous oxide delivery systems use for procedure-induced pain or anxiety during dentistry and surgery procedures. Key players in the region are Praxair Technology, Inc. and Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc.

Moreover, the growing prevalence of heart disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes in Europe is expected to favor growth of the market during forecast period. Advancements in research and development are also driving the growth of the market in Europe. For instance, according to the EU Clinical Trial Register, in 2016, Air Liquide Santé International initiated the study of equimolar mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide delivery systems (EMONO) for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain, a randomised, international, multicentre, placebo–controlled, phenotype–stratified and completed its phase IIa. Key players in the region are Air Liquide S.A, SOL SpA, and Merck KGaA.

Furthermore, Asia pacific is expected to witness significant growth in the medical nitrous oxide delivery systems market due to wide applications of nitrous oxide delivery systems in medical and non-medical industries. Asia Pacific is home to industries in various sectors such as electronics, pharmaceutical. In 2015, The Messer Group GmbH, a supplier of industrial gases, commissioned its new US$ 37.41 million, specialty gas plant in Suzhou, eastern China.

Key players in region are Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation, Promas Engineers Pvt. Ltd, and S.S. Gas Lab Asia Pvt. Ltd.
