Motorola has introduced a new ultra-slim phone, the Edge 70, in South Korea for 550,000 won, significantly lower than its usual price of 1.2 million won. This pricing strategy is focuses at competing with industry giants like Samsung as well as Apple in the highly competitive Korean market.
To expand its reach, Motorola has partnered with KT, a major South Korean telecommunications company, to sell the phone in physical stores as well as online. Customers who sign up for a phone plan worth around 60,000 won can get the Edge 70 for free, thanks to device subsidies.
The Edge 70 stands out for its slim design, measuring just 5.99 mm in thickness as well as weighing only 159 g. Despite its lightweight build, it boasts a 4,800 mAh battery, which is 900 mAh larger than its competitors, the Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air.
Although it’s slightly thicker than these phones, the Edge 70 features similar high-end specifications, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 processor, making it a competitive alternative in the premium smartphone industry.
Motorola strategically chose to launch the Edge 70 in January, a typically quieter period for phone releases, to avoid direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy or Apple’s iPhone. However, sustaining long-term sales will be challenging. To succeed, Motorola will need to provide strong customer service, ensure reliable after-sales support, as well as implement effective marketing campaigns to go against the established dominance of Samsung as well as Apple in the region.
