Samsung Electronics has set up an M&A (mergers and acquisitions) team as part of its new Business Support Office. The company launched the Business Support Office on the 7th, which now has three teams: the Strategy Team, the Management Strategy Team, and the People & Personnel Team. This transformation revolutionizes the temporary Business Support TF into a permanent organization.
President Ahn Joong-hyun, who has been in charge of M&A tasks within the TF, has been appointed the head of the new M&A team. President Ahn has led major M&A deals, including the acquisition of Harman in 2017, which was Samsung Electronics' largest acquisition, and the purchase of European HVAC company Plaekteu for 2.5 trillion Korean won this year. It’s also known that employees who previously handled M&A in the TF have joined the new M&A team.
With this change, the Business Process Management Office now has four departments. The office currently has over 70 employees. As more tasks are made under the Business Support Office, there are increasing expectations that Samsung's M&A activities will be stronger.
This restructuring is part of Samsung's broader strategy to improve its corporate growth through strategic acquisitions. By establishing a focused M&A team, the company aims to streamline its decision-making process as well as drive more informed investments.
The new M&A team will focus on recognizing major opportunities for expansion and innovation, as well as long-term growth, particularly in high-tech sectors such as AI, robotics, and consumer electronics. With President Ahn’s broad experience in managing high-profile deals, the team is expected to play a major role in Samsung's efforts to reinforce its global position and maximize shareholder value through future acquisitions.
