The U.S.-based digital energy-technology company SLB introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool that is designed to help streamline and automate many of the tasks involved in oilfield services, for example, analyzing well-logs, spotting drilling problems early, and improving how equipment is used.
This launch reflects SLB’s aim to grow its digital business division, which has recently shown strong revenue growth and is expected to continue expanding rapidly.
Agents built into Tela can team up with human workers or operate on their own to analyse well-logs, predict drilling problems and optimise equipment performance.
The digital division of SLB was a key growth area, its revenue rose 11 % from the previous quarter.
The company recently began reporting this digital business separately and expects double-digit annual growth in its digital sales.
The new AI tool is part of a broader shift at SLB, where the company is placing digital innovation at the heart of its strategy. By embedding AI‑driven tools and services into its operations, SLB aims not only to enhance efficiency and automation in oilfield workflows but also to open up new revenue streams and long‑term digital growth.
Executive Statement
According to Rakesh Jaggi, SLB's president of Digital & Integration, they have been very successful with this (AI) business for the last many years, and absolutely, digital will be an integral part of the success of SLB for many decades to come. Today, the industry faces a dual challenge: a leaner workforce and increased technical complexity, and Tela can address both.
