Endometrial ablation is process that facilitates the destruction of endometrium or thin layer of the uterine wall, in context to treat abnormal heavy uterine bleeding if not controlled with any means of medication. Endometrial ablation is not recommended in women with disorders of endometrium, endometrial hyperplasia, cancer of uterus, recent pregnancy and certain infections of uterus, as per the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). Due to the fact that, non-resectoscopic methods requires less specialized training, shorter operative time and they can be performed in outpatient setting, it is a widely preferred ablation technique over resectoscopic ablation.
