GM Korea, the South Korean division of General Motors, has announced plans to raise its vehicle production to 500,000 units this year, driven by rising demand, particularly from the United States. This represents an 8.5% growth from its 2025 output of 460,826 vehicles.
To achieve the 500,000-unit target, GM Korea will prioritize production of the Chevrolet Trax as well as Chevrolet Trailblazer models at its Bupyeong and Changwon factories, operating both plants at full capacity. GM has instructed the company to ensure both plants are running at maximum output.
GM’s CEO, Mary Barra, emphasized that the demand for South Korean-made vehicles remains strong, contributing to the overall profitability of the company. In addition, GM Korea revealed plans to invest USD 300 million in its operations as well as expand its production capacity in South Korea beyond 2028.
To further bolster its offerings, GM Korea has recently launched the Acadia SUV along with the Canyon pickup truck. The company also plans to introduce the electric Hummer SUV later this year, focusing to strengthen its position in the growing electric vehicle market.
