AI traffic and data center connections are increasing quickly, and small improvements to older network systems are no longer enough. Different applications need networks that are specially designed for speed, distance, and efficiency. Nokia’s new products are built to give the best performance while saving money, space, and power. They also make managing networks much easier for operators.
The new products include advanced optical solutions and a compact multi-fiber amplifier that improves network performance. Nokia’s executives will explain their vision for AI-era optical networking this week at the OFC conference in Los Angeles.
Instead of making separate products for each application, Nokia is using a “building block” approach. This means network parts can be easily combined and used for many different optical transport needs. The building blocks include four new digital signal processors and several optical front ends made with Indium Phosphide and Silicon Photonics.
This method creates a full set of optical solutions that are designed to work well for both current and future network uses. It saves money, space, and power, and can cut total costs by up to 70%.
According to Coherent Market Insights, the Synchronous Optical Network Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2025 to 2032. Currently, the market is at USD 7.33 Bn in 2025 and is expected to be around USD 13.24 Bn by 2032. Synchronous optical networking is increasingly being adopted by telecommunication companies and large enterprises to cater to the exponentially growing demand for bandwidth and need for high-speed data transmission.
David Heard, President of Network Infrastructure at Nokia said “the industry is at a critical inflection point, requiring a whole new dimension of scale, trust and innovation. At Nokia, we are connecting intelligence by leveraging our unmatched global scale, deep vertical integration, and a co-creation model with our customer base. The result is trusted solutions that drive the best economics, lowest power and AI-enabled efficiency to advance connectivity for the AI era.”
