PepsiCo has recently introduced a new line of snacks called Simply NKD. This line includes versions of their popular Doritos and Cheetos flavors, but with no artificial flavors, dyes, or colors. These snacks are made with simpler ingredients, giving people a more natural option while still enjoying the taste of their favorite snacks.
The current Simply NKD products include:
- Doritos Simply NKD Nacho Cheese
- Doritos Simply NKD Cool Ranch
- Cheetos Simply NKD Puffs
- Cheetos Simply NKD Flamin' Hot
These new Simply NKD snacks will be available in stores starting on December 1.
In April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Food and Drug Administration announced a plan to gradually remove eight artificial food colors and colorings from the country’s food supply. This decision is part of a broader movement, known as the MAHA movement, which focuses on reducing artificial ingredients in food. Because of this movement, many food companies have started to remove artificial flavors and dyes from their products.
However, some food scientists have raised concerns about how the MAHA movement is approaching food additives and processed foods. They argue that more research is needed to fully understand how these additives might be linked to chronic health problems. They also point out that social issues, like limited access to healthcare and poverty, play a big role in why people often eat foods with these additives. These factors need more attention in discussions about food and health.
Executive Statement
According to Rachel Ferdinando, CEO of PepsiCo Foods U.S., rest assured, their iconic Cheetos as well as Doritos remain unchanged. NKD is an additive option, not a replacement, introduced to meet consumer demand. This move underscores their commitment to flavor leadership, demonstrating that their taste remains strong even without visual cues. As part of their broader transformation, they are expanding choices while still protecting our iconic brands. More choices, same flavor, same brand power.
