Samsung SDS is taking a big step to bring artificial intelligence (AI) into businesses. The company has released a new unit to manage AI projects focused on businesses and started selling OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise in South Korea under a special agreement, making it the only company in the country with the right to resell the product.
In a recent earnings call, Samsung SDS also announced plans to invest 500 billion won (USD 341 million) this year, mostly to expand the infrastructure needed for large-scale AI operations.
Samsung SDS is part of the Samsung Group and mainly provides IT services and logistics. While it still makes most of its revenue within Samsung, it's been working to expand its services for outside clients, especially in areas where compliance and system integration are important.
The new AX Center for AI transformation will lead the company's efforts to develop and use AI in businesses. The target is on agentic AI, which can manage multiple tasks on its own, not just assist users. These AI tools will be used in real business settings, like automating reports for banks or managing data for government agencies.
Samsung SDS is utilizing its agreement with OpenAI to sell ChatGPT Enterprise Artificial Intelligence directly to South Korean businesses. This version of ChatGPT has features suited for large companies, such as better data protection and the ability to handle more complex tasks. Samsung will offer extra support, including technical help and AI consulting.
To support all this, Samsung SDS plans to double its data center capacity by 2029, with a new facility already being built. They also plan to buy advanced GPUs for AI development.
