TGS, a leader in energy data, has released a new project called the Bonaparte Basin PSDM Reprocessing Project, which focuses on improving the understanding of the geology as well as subsurface in offshore Australia.
The project will involve reprocessing four data sets: Cygnus 3D, Cartier 3D, Grand Ashmore 2D, and Vulcan 2D. The 3D data sets will go through a detailed process called Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) to advance the quality of the images, while the 2D data will be reprocessed using advanced techniques to create clearer and more accurate results.
The Bonaparte Basin is a complicated area with different geological features, including sandstones, carbonates, and submarine fans. This project focuses to improve the imaging of deeper areas, aiding to better understand the region and support future exploration activities.
According to Coherent Market Insights, the Seismic Data Processing and Imaging Software Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.2% from 2025 to 2032. Currently, the market is at USD 9.81 Bn in 2025 and is expected to be around USD 20.63 Bn by 2032. The rising demand for energy resources, coupled with advancements in seismic imaging technology, is expected to drive significant growth in the global seismic data processing and imaging software market. Rising exploration and production activities in the oil & gas, geothermal, and mineral sectors are further fuelling the demand for high-resolution subsurface imaging solutions.
“Launching the Bonaparte Basin PSDM Reprocessing Project demonstrates TGS’ continued focus on delivering advanced imaging solutions that help our clients better understand complex geology,” said David Hajovsky, EVP, Multi-Client at TGS. “By applying the latest seismic reprocessing technologies, we are providing higher-quality data that supports more informed exploration decisions across offshore Australia.”
As offshore exploration intensifies, improved subsurface imaging is becoming more critical. TGS is keeping itself to meet the growing demand for high-quality seismic data by enhancing its reprocessing capabilities. With the Bonaparte Basin PSDM Reprocessing Project, the company aims to support a wide range of industries, from energy to minerals, ensuring that operators make well-informed decisions and maximize resource extraction potential.
