Visual impairment (VI), a condition of reduced visual performance that cannot be treated by refractive correction (glasses or contact lenses), surgery, or medical methods. An irreversible vision loss, a restricted visual field, decreased contrast sensitivity, increased sensitivity to glare, as well as a decreased capacity to perform activities of daily living like reading or writing which are all considered as signs of visual impairment (VI)

Market Dynamics

The increasing prevalence of vision impairment is one of the major factors that drive the market growth. For instance, on October 13, 2022, according to the report published by the World Health Organization, approximately 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment globally, out of which 1 billion or almost half of these cases are of vision impairment that could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed.

On the other hand, 258 million people had mild vision impairment, of whom 142 million were female till November 2020. It is estimated that by 2050, 474 million people will have moderate and severe vision impairment, 360 million people will have mild vision impairment, and 866 million people will have uncorrected presbyopia.
