ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) bags such as anti-static bags, metallized bags, and conductive bags are used for storing electronic component, which are prone to damaged caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD). It is made from plastics such as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and polyethylene. The bags have three distinctive colors: silvery for metallized film and pink or black for polyethylene. ESD bags are used to prevent electrostatic damage of electronic items during transportation. Electrostatic discharge is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown.
Global ESD bags market was valued at US$ 384.8 Million in 2021 in terms of revenue, exhibiting a CAGR of 6.9% during the forecast period (2022 to 2030).
Drivers
Rapid growth in packaging industry is one of the major factors driving growth of the global ESD bags market. The Indian packaging industry is witnessing steep growth and is one of the strongest growing Industry. For instance, According to the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) in October 2020, the Indian packaging industry is expected to reach US$ 204.81 billion by 2025 from US$ 50.5 billion in 2019 at 26.7% annually growth rate. Anti-stats bags are used in various industries such as electronics, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. These bags prevent electronic devices from electrostatic discharging (ESD) that may occur during movement or shipping of these devises.
Rising demand for electronic items such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets, is projected to promote the growth of the ESD bags market in order to minimize static charge build-up in such electronic devices. For instance, according to a report published by the World Trade Organisation, in December 2020, the demand for the computers and electronic components has recorded a positive growth in the second quarter of year 2020 with a growth rate of 10% to 11%.
In terms of revenue, North America held significant market share in 2021, owing to increasing use of devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops. Increasing use of these devices is expected to propel demand for ESD bags such as anti-static bags for packaging electronic components and devices in order to protect from mechanical and electrostatic damage. For instance, according to the U.S. Census Bureau report in April 2021, the number of smartphone users increased significantly by the year 2018 the number of smartphone users increased by 84% and the number of laptop and computer users increased by 78%. Moreover, according to Consumer Technology Association (CTA) 2018, unit volume shipping of smartphones in the U.S. is expected to increase by 2% and reach US$ 189 million by the end of the year 2018, while revenue is expected to increase by 3% to reach US$ 62.9 billion in 2018 in the U.S.

Market Trends
ESD bags are used for the transport of electronics to prevent the electronic static discharge which is a key trend in the market. Static-Shielding bags simulate a Faraday cage effect for the electronics inside them, completely protecting them from a direct electrostatic discharge and building up static electricity. Static-Shielding bags are used for sensitive electronics that could be damaged by an electrostatic discharge. This is the key trend in the ESD bag market.
