BASF and Avery Dennison are working together to sell BASF’s new acrylates made using renewable electricity

BASF Corporation is introducing two new products, Butyl acrylate RE and 2-Ethylhexylacrylate RE, made at its Texas plant using electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar. This helps lower carbon emissions and makes the products greener than regular acrylic acid esters.

The “RE” in the product names shows that 100% of the electricity used comes from renewable sources.

These new products work just like the regular versions and can be used in many polymer applications, mainly for coatings and adhesives.

Avery Dennison has helped bring these products to market, supporting its goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions and promote more sustainable materials in adhesives and sealants.

BASF and Avery Dennison both have big environmental goals to cut emissions. BASF is putting money into renewable energy, electric production, and recycling raw materials, while Avery Dennison is working to lower emissions from the materials it uses, how it makes products, and how it ships them.

According to coherent market insights, the Sustainable Materials Market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12.4% during 2026 to 2033. Currently, the market is at USD 401.50 Bn in 2026 and is expected to be around USD 909.95 Bn by 2033. Growing environmental consciousness, regulatory pressures, and the adoption of eco-friendly techniques in sectors like manufacturing, packaging, construction, and the automotive industry are all contributing to the strong growth of the global market for sustainable materials.

“This announcement demonstrates how our collaboration with Avery Dennison fosters meaningful progress toward a lower-carbon future,” said Michael Limbach, Vice President, Industrial Petrochemicals, BASF North America. “This accomplishment highlights the power of investing in responsible production and efficient, future-ready operations, enabling BASF to deliver high-performance acrylates that Avery Dennison and the North American market expect.”

“The collaboration with BASF demonstrates our commitment to introducing more sustainable materials throughout our integrated supply chain,” said Collins Oluka, Vice President, Procurement, Avery Dennison Materials Group North America and Global Chemicals. “Innovations such as renewable-energy-enabled acrylic esters help advance our long-term sustainability goals. We look forward to collaborating further with BASF as we scale more sustainable material solutions for our customers.”
