Dyson has introduced its first AI-powered robot vacuum to the Korean market. During a demonstration on January 22 at The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul, a black robot vacuum cleaner moved across the floor, using a green light to find dirt. Once it detected a stain, it scrubbed repeatedly until it was gone, and when it encountered pet waste, it steered away.
Nathan Lawson McLean, a senior design manager on Dyson’s home robotics automation team, showcased the Spot+Scrub AI Robot vacuum, marking a significant entry for Dyson into the highly competitive Korean consumer electronics market.
The company has completely redesigned the product. The transparent water tank allows users to see the water flow during cleaning, as well as the built-in artificial intelligence enables the robot to identify different stains and liquids. It can repeat the cleaning process up to 15 times if necessary.
The robot vacuum market in Korea is one of the most competitive, with Chinese brands controlling more than 60% of the market share. Roborock leads, followed by Ecovacs, Xiaomi, Dreame, as well as Narwal, while Samsung Electronics holds about 20% and LG Electronics has around 9%.
Chinese manufacturers aggressively compete on both price and technology, providing advanced features like the ability to climb over floor thresholds, map rooms precisely, and avoid obstacles. Their product lineups range from ₩400,000 to ₩2,000,000 (USD 275 to USD 1,400).
In response, Samsung and LG are focusing on the premium end of the market. Samsung highlighted its AI Home ecosystem at CES with the Bespoke AI Steam Robot Vacuum, while LG promotes its Objet Station lineup, emphasizing high-temperature steam cleaning for better hygiene.
