Fermi America (also known as Fermi Inc.) is continuing its partnership with Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) to help restart large-scale nuclear projects in the U.S. The focus is on Project Matador, a large energy project near Amarillo, Texas, that plans to build four AP1000 nuclear units as part of an 11-gigawatt private energy campus.
This partnership is part of Fermi America's long-term goal to bring successful nuclear power projects back to the U.S. and meet the growing demand for energy.
As part of the collaboration, Fermi America took part in Hyundai E&C's seminar on nuclear construction, held in Dallas, where industry experts discussed what’s needed to build large nuclear projects today. The seminar focused on major topics like nuclear construction standards, modular building methods, and workforce training.
After years of stalled nuclear projects in the U.S., Fermi America believes that Project Matador can help restart nuclear construction in the country.
Fermi America is proud to work with Hyundai, a company that has successfully built 24 nuclear reactors worldwide. Together with Westinghouse AP1000 technology as well as support from the U.S. government, they aim to restart the nuclear industry in the U.S.
The two companies are moving forward with planning and evaluations to get the project ready for the next stages of development.
Executive Statement
According to Toby Neugebauer, CEO and Co-Founder of Fermi America, it's a very short line of companies eager to do nuclear here in America. The list is even shorter when you consider the projects with a COL accepted for review, active NRC engagement, and a highly characterized site that are ready to break ground this year.
