Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a major USD 75 million partnership between NY Creates and SCREEN, a semiconductor equipment company from Japan. This partnership will strengthen research and development (R&D) for advanced chips between the U.S. and Japan.
As part of the agreement, SCREEN will use 10,000 square feet of cleanroom space and 5,000 square feet of office space in the Albany NanoTech Complex, a leading semiconductor R&D center in the U.S. The partnership is expected to spend more than USD 75 million in the first three years of a ten-year agreement.
This collaboration is a result of Governor Hochul’s previous investment of USD 1 billion to attract USD 9 billion in industry funding to support growth in high-tech research. The new partnership will not only help expand R&D efforts but also create more job opportunities and strengthen the technology ecosystem in both the U.S. and Japan.
The agreement was signed by leaders from NY Creates, Empire State Development, and SCREEN during a ceremony in Tokyo on December 16.
