On November 6, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DSEC, a company specializing in ship design and equipment procurement.
DSEC is a mid-sized South Korean company that works with U.S. shipyards. It offers services including ship design, equipment supply, maintenance, and consulting for both commercial as well as special-purpose ships.
This new strategic partnership will allow Samsung Heavy Industries to line up its cooperation with DSEC in both local as well as international markets, including the U.S. The collaboration will work on several areas, including:
- Making medium-sized commercial vessels
- Guiding for shipyard modernization
- Converting ships as well as repairing LNG carrier tanks
- Providing green as well as digital solutions
- Utilizing research and development (R&D) facilities
Through this partnership, Samsung aims to strengthen its presence in global markets and advance its capabilities in the shipping industry.
Samsung Heavy Industries is working to create a supply chain system that will be optimized for the "MASGA Project." This system will integrate its own expertise in shipbuilding as well as offshore construction with DSEC’s design and procurement capabilities in the United States. The goal is to enhance the project’s efficiency and competitiveness, particularly in the U.S. market. One major part of the plan is to partner with DSEC on U.S. shipyard modernization, which will help Samsung Heavy Industries gain a competitive edge in the U.S. shipping and shipbuilding industries.
Earlier, Samsung Heavy Industries also announced its move into the U.S. market by forming a strategic partnership with Vigor Marine Group. This collaboration focuses on the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of U.S. Navy support vessels. Vigor Marine Group is a well-known shipbuilder that specializes in maintaining and modernizing U.S. naval vessels and handling MRO for special mission vessels.
Building on this partnership along with the success of its collaborations in the U.S., Samsung Heavy Industries plans to expand its presence even further into global markets. The company is particularly focused on North America as well as Southeast Asia, where it sees opportunities for growth and long-term business development.
