Samsung has shown a working prototype of its Galaxy Z TriFold, the company’s first tri-fold smartphone. The prototype was displayed at the K-Tech Showcase, a side event of the APEC Summit 2025, and the official announcement is expected at the main event in South Korea from October 31 to November 1.
Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, which folds just once with a single hinge, the TriFold has two hinges that let it fold twice. It combines three display panels into one, so it can switch from a 6.5-inch phone to a 10-inch tablet-like screen, with a regular-sized cover screen on the back.
When unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold looks like a small tablet with a wide horizontal screen. It introduces a new category to Samsung’s foldable lineup as well as shows the company’s leadership in foldable technology. This is the device’s first public showing, giving attendees an early look at Samsung’s most ambitious foldable smartphone so far.
Visitors couldn’t touch or try the Galaxy Z TriFold, as it was shown behind a glass case. Samsung may allow public interaction at the APEC Summit later this week, with the phone expected to go on sale next month. Industry estimates suggest the launch price could be around USD 3,000.
Samsung may make a small initial batch of about 50,000 to 100,000 units, targeting markets with high demand for cutting-edge devices like Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE. A U.S. release seems unlikely for now. It remains to be seen whether the TriFold will become a niche collector’s item or start a new trend in smartphone design.
