Siemens Energy is investing USD 1 billion to expand its factories across the U.S. to meet the growing demand for electricity. The company plans to increase the production of gas turbines and equipment for the power grid.
The investment will include making new factories and expanding existing ones. One important project is a new high-voltage switchgear plant in Mississippi, which will focus on making key components for the power grid. Siemens will also upgrade its facilities in Alabama, New York, and Texas to improve the manufacturing of parts like compression equipment, copper components, and insulation materials.
The company says the need for a stronger power grid is driven by the growth of data centers, artificial intelligence systems, and more industrial electrification. To help meet these needs, Siemens will restart gas turbine production in North Carolina and increase the production of blades and vanes in Florida.
Siemens is also operating with partners to build a digital grid lab focused on artificial intelligence to make sure the grid can handle future power demands.
This expansion will create over 1,500 new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and operations. Siemens plans to provide more apprenticeship opportunities as well as make a new training center to help develop skilled workers for these roles.
