SK Hynix, a leading chipmaker, has teamed up with convenience store chain 7-Eleven to create a fun new snack called Seven Select Honey Banana HBM Chips. These chips are inspired by the company's high-bandwidth memory (HBM) technology, and for the first time, a Korean convenience store has worked with a semiconductor company to create a product like this.
The name "HBM Chips" has a double meaning. It stands for Honey, Banana, and Mat (which means "flavor" in Korean), but also refers to HBM semiconductor chips, which are major to SK Hynix’s leadership in advanced memory.
The snack looks like small square corn chips, designed to resemble semiconductor components. They are coated with a sweet honey-banana cream blend. Each pack of chips features a fun humanoid semiconductor character from SK Hynix, and comes with a collectible sticker.
Consumers can scan the serial number on their sticker using the 7-Eleven app to enter a contest for prizes. Top winners can receive a 10-don gold bar, gold prizes for runners-up, and Apple AirPods Pro 3, with over 1,500 prizes available.
This collaboration is part of 7-Eleven’s strategy to create unique and fun experiences for younger customers, while also giving SK Hynix a chance to expand its brand beyond the world of semiconductors.
Executive Statement
According to Park Sun-kyung, 7-Eleven's merchandising manager for snacks, they will continue to break down barriers between industries and deliver enjoyable, unexpected combinations that give their customers new experiences.
