Tesla Delivers Semi Trucks With 500 Miles Ranges

Dec, 2022 - by CMI

After five years its launch in November 2017, Tesla showcased its first semi-electric truck with range of 500 miles.

In 2017, the Tesla Semi truck model showed for the first time. The totally electric semi-truck has an unusual layout where the driver sits in the middle of the cab as opposed to one of the sides. The performance of the truck has been improved by Tesla.

Tesla’s Semi truck accelerates significantly more swiftly than conventional diesel powered Semi trucks, even when fully loaded. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, also pointed out that it is much simpler to drive than other semi trucks because it excludes the multi-geared gearbox found in diesel vehicles.

According to Elon Musk, the truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds with an empty trailer. The Tesla semi has a charging connection with liquid cooling technology and can charge at 1 megawatt with the help of an upgraded Tesla supercharger. Three electric motors are used by semi. One to speed at highways and the other two conserved when needed to accelerate.

The weight of an empty semi was not publicly disclosed by Tesla. Tesla made no mention of the specifics of how the driver assistance system in the truck it unveiled or upcoming versions will operate. According to Tesla, the truck can load up to 82,000 pounds.

Trucks powered by electricity instead of gasoline or diesel could significantly enhance public health and even save thousands of lives.  The Tesla semi truck has good features, but 500 miles is not much long range for trucks. Diesel powered trucks sound more reliable than electric trucks.

Charging the truck every time would make delays in delivery system. Special type of chargers would be required for quick charging. Alternatives to trucks powered by combustion engines are being developed by Tesla’s rivals.
