The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) along with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol have announced a strategic partnership focused on integrating global greenhouse gas emissions accounting standards.
This partnership will align ISO’s 1406x climate reporting standards along with the GHG Protocol framework, which is uses by 97% of S&P 500 companies for emissions reporting. The unified standards will simplify emissions measurement, reporting, and terminology, facilitating transparent as well as verifiable benchmarking of progress toward net-zero targets.
This aims the current fragmentation in emissions reporting, where diverse standards and regional variations hinder effective climate action.
The partnership will make sure consistency along with reliability in climate data, guiding investment and policy making decisions.
However, environmental groups have emphasized the importance of maintaining robust, science-based, and publicly accessible standards to preserve credibility. No specific timeline has been provided for the completion of the harmonized framework.
According to coherent market insights, the green technology and sustainability market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12% during 2025 to 2032. Currently, the market is at USD 20.06 Bn in 2025 and is expected to be around USD 44.35 Bn by 2032. The global green technology and sustainability market is booming, largely due to the rising need for effective pollution monitoring and control.
The timing is particularly important as mature nodes continue to see strong demand for applications in IoT, automotive, industrial sectors, etc. As leading-edge nodes receive more attention, the mature-node market holds robust volume production with more stable, long-term demand patterns. ACM's expansion into this segment diversifies its revenue streams and strengthens its competitive position against established players in the semiconductor equipment market.
Geraldine Matchett, Steering Committee Chair of GHG Protocol said “We are very pleased to announce this historic agreement that leverages the respective strengths of both organizations. Harmonizing corporate, product and project-level GHG accounting standards is key. With users top of mind, this partnership establishes a new mechanism for long-term collaboration, demonstrating our commitment to reducing complexity in the field of international standards and allowing the development of the core frameworks needed to enable meaningful climate action across stakeholder groups.”
Both of the ISO as well as GHG Protocol standards are broadly adopted by organizations around the world. The ISO 1406X family of standards is used by governments in legislation and regulation and forms the foundation for GHG reporting and verification frameworks in many industries. GHG Protocol standards are relied upon by leading sustainability and disclosure initiatives.
With the integration of standards from the ISO 1406X series and the GHG Protocol suite of standards, the partnership will bring technical rigor, policy relevance and practical usability into one set of standards.
Both the company’s industrial experts will now collaborate through an integrated technical process, with the goal of delivering cohesive standards that meets the needs of all users, and support robust, science-based decarbonization across regions, sectors and economies.
