Yield Energy has introduced Yield Edge, a new system designed to help farms manage their energy use by turning their operations into valuable grid resources.
The launch marks the company’s rebrand from Polaris Energy Services, shifting from using specific hardware to a platform that works with various agricultural technologies.
Currently, Yield Edge helps manage irrigation pumps and will soon include other farm energy needs like cold storage, EV charging, solar power, batteries, and more. The system allows farms to participate in energy-saving programs without changing their daily routines.
Farmers in California have shown great results, reducing energy use during peak times and creating extra income with their existing equipment.
Over 200 MW of farm energy management is now being managed through the platform, including more than 100 MW taking part in PG&E's Hourly Flex Pricing pilot.
The system was developed with around $3 million in funding from the California Energy Commission (CEC).
Executive Statement
According to Tyler Nuss, CEO of Yield Energy, agriculture has always had the potential to be one of the grid’s most powerful partners — it just needed the right tools. They have proven that on-farm operations can deliver reliable, grid-ready flexibility at scale. Yield connects that flexibility to the operational demands of today’s grid, creating new revenue for growers while delivering capacity that’s faster, cleaner, and far more affordable than new infrastructure.
