New update from YouTube app enables users to search content with the help of Hashtags.

Hashtags are the label that possess some content of a specific topic. These are helpful for the users to discover their desired content. Hashtags are mostly used on social media sites but they rose to fame on Twitter.

World’s second largest search engine and website, YouTube, announced on January 21st, 2021 plans to add the landing pages via a hashtag. With the help of this feature, the users can be redirected to a landing page that has the content related to a specific hashtag.

YouTube stated that this feature will keep the ‘best’ videos at the top of the landing page. This feature will provide the users a new method to sort-out their videos and create playlists. Hashtags can be added in the video description while uploading it. Use of trending hashtags with the videos can boost the reach of the video and also increase its viewership for the YouTubers. For instance, the users will find more videos in the popular hashtags and fewer videos related to niche hashtags on the landing page.

Another thing to notice is that topics which have some controversies revolving around them, are not displayed or don’t have any content on the landing page. In October 2020, YouTube had restricted the content carrying any hateful, controversial and conspiracies along with it. The giant online-streaming platform confirmed that their team continuously reviews and updates their terms and policies to ensure only the good content is viewed to the users.

Hashtags will help digital marketers to create a branded hashtag to promote their products on YouTube. Other ways of using this feature are to build a community, raise awareness, organize contests, and join conversations on YouTube.
