GM has announced a new investment in its South Korean production operations. The announcement was made at a special event called the 2026 GM Korea Business Strategy Conference, held at GM’s headquarters in Incheon, South Korea. The event was attended by GM’s local executives and government officials. GM also confirmed its commitment to South Korea after making profits in 2024.
GM will invest around KRW 440 billion (about USD 300 million) to improve its production in South Korea and expand its operations beyond 2028. This investment will help update products and increase production to meet global demand.
Currently, GM manufactures four subcompact crossover models for Chevrolet and Buick in South Korea. These include the Chevy Trax, Buick Envista, Chevy Trailblazer, and Buick Encore GX. The new investment will also help refresh the Trax and Envista models.
Executive Statement
According to President and CEO of GM Korea, Hector Villarreal, recording a profit in 2024 is an important milestone for GM Korea. By faithfully executing the normalization plan established in 2018, they are building a sustainable foundation. Over the past 20 years, General Motors has produced 13.3 million vehicles in Korea and sold 2.5 million vehicles in the domestic market, establishing itself as a key axis of the Korean automotive industry. Going forward, they will further strengthen their full-cycle capabilities in Korea, from vehicle design and engineering to production and sales.
