Huawei is planning to release its latest AI chip, Ascend 950, in Korea next year. The company aims to enter the domestic AI infrastructure market with this launch. Balian Wang, CEO of Huawei Korea, shared this at the Huawei Day 2025 press conference on December 26, 2025, held at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
Wang mentioned that Huawei Korea would officially introduce AI computing cards and solutions related to AI data centers in 2026. The goal is to offer Korean companies an alternative to NVIDIA in the AI technology space. The Ascend 950 chip, which Huawei plans to release, will be a key product in this effort.
In addition to the AI chips, Huawei Korea will also work on developing an ecosystem by supplying its self-developed open-source HarmonyOS to local companies. Wang clarified that while Huawei developed HarmonyOS, the ownership of the operating system now lies with open-source organizations, which will handle its updates and operations. HarmonyOS is designed to work not only on smartphones but also on various smart home technologies.
By releasing the Ascend 950 chip as well as promoting HarmonyOS, Huawei plans to expand its presence in the Korean market and provide new options for businesses looking for alternatives to current technology providers like NVIDIA.
Executive Statement
According to Balian Wang, CEO of Huawei Korea, unlike NVIDIA, we plan to sell in cluster units rather than selling chips individually, and Huawei’s strategy is not limited to simply providing AI cards and AI servers, but to accelerate industrial applications. To achieve this, the company aims to secure competitiveness by providing end-to-end (E2E) solutions that encompass infrastructure hardware and software, including networks and storage. In such cases, there may not be a need for partner companies (for supply and sales), and they will strategize so that Huawei can directly integrate and provide services.
