The government announced that it will launch a new platform next year to compare prices and provide information about agricultural products. This platform will use artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a larger plan to bring AI into public services.
At the first meeting of a new government advisory group made up of ministers in charge of science and technology, the government revealed 10 new AI projects aimed at improving public services in areas like shopping, healthcare, and safety.
Four major projects, including the price comparison platform, will each receive 10 billion won (about USD 6.79 million) in funding over the next two years. The other projects will get 3 billion won each.
The first project will be an AI-powered platform that gives real-time price updates on agricultural products and suggests the best places to buy them based on a person's location. It will also recommend alternative products if prices rise because of supply shortages.
The platform is expected to begin testing in the second half of next year.
The government will also launch an app called the "AI Safety Guardian for Human-Applied Products" in 2027. This app will show safety information and ingredients for food, medicine, medical devices, and cosmetics, along with real-time licensing details, consultations, and legal advice.
Another project will create an AI guide for national heritage sites. This will offer AI-generated information for both local and international visitors, without restrictions on time, location, or language.
The government also plans to introduce an AI tax advisor service to help taxpayers who have difficulty getting help during busy filing periods. The service will provide AI-powered phone and chatbot support.
Apart from this, the government will include AI tools for police work, such as managing traffic, monitoring safety, and responding to online crimes.
