The Beaumont New Ammonia (BNA) facility in southeast Texas has produced its first ammonia after finishing system tests, marking the first step in starting its operations.
Commercial ammonia production is expected to begin in early 2026 when Woodside Energy takes over from OCI Global. Production of lower-carbon ammonia is planned to start later in 2026.
There is growing global demand for lower-carbon ammonia, especially from customers in Europe and Asia, who are focused on energy security and reducing carbon emissions.
Woodside has also made agreements with major global customers to supply regular ammonia from the BNA facility. Deliveries will begin in 2026 and continue through the end of the year, with prices based on current market rates. More agreements for lower-carbon ammonia are in the works to match expected production levels.
Kellyanne Lochan, Vice President at Woodside, said they’re pleased with the progress of the testing and commissioning, confirming that the facility is ready to start full operations soon. She thanked both OCI and Woodside teams for their hard work.
Before the facility is fully handed over, more testing and checks will be done to ensure everything is ready for safe and efficient operation. Both companies are focused on making sure the facility meets all safety, regulatory, and contract requirements.
The BNA facility has the capacity to produce 1.1 million tonnes of ammonia per year and is designed to meet growing demand for green ammonia, lower-carbon ammonia, and products related to hydrogen energy. Once it’s fully operational, it could nearly double U.S. ammonia exports, helping boost the economy and supporting America's energy leadership.
