Artificial sperms are the artificial spermatozoa for individuals suffering from infertility. In fertile males, the spermatozoa is developed by mitosis, meiosis, and maturation in male gonad (testis) and the process is known as spermatogenesis. Males suffering from infertility adopt the artificial production of sperm. In this process, genetically related sperm cells are developed from non-essential sperm cells of males in laboratory rather in male gonad (testis). The cells used to develop the artificial sperms are either progenitor or somatic cells. Artificial sperms are potentially used to replace non-existent sperm cells in azoospermic men. Azoospermia is a condition faced by men, where there is no presence of sperm or less sperm count in males.

Global Artificial Sperm Market: Drivers

The global artificial sperm market is expected to witness significant growth, as research institutes and academic research institutes are focusing on research and development for the treatment of infertility by artificial sperm to strengthen their position in the global artificial sperm market. For instance, in July 2020, University of California San Diego School of Medicine stated that they are developing a reliable method for production of human spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) in laboratory. The researchers of University of California San Diego are performing the research using sperm stem cell transplantation. The method involves biopsy of male human gonad to produce artificial spermatozoa and cultivation of spermatogonial stem cell with AKT pathway inhibitor.

Global Artificial Sperm Market - COVID-19 Impact Analysis

COVID-19 has affected several markets across the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected the global artificial sperm market and various fertility centers are taking initiatives for the treatment of individuals having infertility conditions during this pandemic. For instance, in March 2020, Fertility Centers of New England, a medical group practice that specializes in reproductive endocrinology & infertility, stated that even during this COVID-19 pandemic, they would continue to treat individuals suffering from infertility conditions and will also follow all the guidelines prescribed by American Society of Reproductive Medicine such as use of personal protection equipment kit by healthcare professionals while treating patients, to check whether the patients are suffering from flu and cough before treatment to decrease the risk of spread of coronavirus disease.

Global Artificial Sperm Market: Restraints

Individuals suffering from infertility are treated with various procedures such as artificial insemination and in-vitro fertilizations. These procedures have drawbacks such as in-vitro fertilization is an expensive fertility treatment and thus, unaffordable for people in low and middle income countries. According to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc, a nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health care in the U.S. and globally, stated that the treatment cost of in-vitro fertilization for an individual is around US$ 800 – US$ 1,000.

Global Artificial Sperm Market: Regional Analysis

On the basis of region, the global artificial sperm market is segmented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. In North America, the artificial sperm market is expected to witness significant growth due to increasing prevalence of azoospermic condition in males in this region. According to American Society of Reproductive Medicine report published in 2018, around 10 - 15% of males are suffering from azoospermic condition in the U.S. and undergo infertility treatment.

In Asia Pacific, the global artificial sperm market is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period, owing to focus of research institutes on research and development of artificial sperm. For instance, in 2016, Institute of Zoology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted research on artificial sperm by developing sperm like cells by using embryonic cells of mice and injecting it into female mice egg cells, and concluded that there was normal fertility and offspring of female mouse.

Global Artificial Sperm Market: Competitive Landscape
